No freestanding umbrella should be described as storm-proof. Wind performance depends on the complete installation: frame, canopy, base, anchoring and how the product is operated.
Share the real installation conditions
Tell the manufacturer whether the product will sit on an exposed beach terrace, a protected courtyard, a street market or a rooftop. The required base and anchoring method will differ significantly.
Look beyond tube diameter
Alloy grade, wall thickness, joint construction, rib layout and the connection between the pole and base all affect the complete structure. A robust canopy also needs appropriate tension and ventilation.
Define weather procedures
Commercial operators should close, secure or store umbrellas before severe weather. A clearly written operating and maintenance policy is part of a responsible shade specification.
